Ashley’s Engineering Career Journey Through WiSTEMM

Can you tell us about yourself and your current role at Nestlé Purina?

I’m currently a Sr. Manager in Engineering, leading project management for our major capital projects. My team supports large projects across our wet pet food facilities. As the business aligns on new investments in our factories, I allocate project management resources and guide project teams through planning, design, and execution phases.

I started my Purina journey as an Engineering Management Development Associate in Crete, Nebraska, and later worked as a Staff Engineer in our Jefferson, Wisconsin factory. I was born and raised in St. Louis, so I was thrilled when an opportunity within our corporate engineering group brought us back home.

Outside of work, I’m a wife and mom to two little boys—one four years old and one eighteen months. We love to travel, and we’re big football fans, especially college football. (Go MIZZOU!)

What is WiSTEMM, and what inspired you to join the program?

Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Manufacturing (WiSTEMM) is a network of incredible Purina associates who seek development, connection, and inspiration. I’ve found it both personally and professionally valuable to engage with colleagues from across the organization. When I was first introduced to WiSTEMM, it offered not only a chance to broaden my network, but also an opportunity to learn from others who have faced similar challenges in a predominantly male field of work. Their experiences and grit have continually inspired me and expanded my perspective.

How has being part of WiSTEMM influenced your career at Nestlé Purina?

WiSTEMM has given me the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the organization—people I likely wouldn’t have interacted with in my day-to-day role. These relationships have been invaluable; having contacts in other groups has helped me advance actions forward more efficiently and understanding how different teams operate has improved my project approach and execution. In addition, the development opportunities provided through the group—whether structured trainings or the mentorship program—have given me greater confidence in my leadership style and broadened my perspective on tackling challenges and taking advantage of opportunities within my role.

The experiences I’ve gained through the group and as part of the steering committee have helped me refine key skills I rely on every day. I’ve effectively prepared presentations for senior leaders, engaged with large audiences, collaborated with key sponsors, and influenced cross functional groups to deliver impactful results. These opportunities have played a significant role in my professional growth.

What events, projects, or initiatives have you participated in through this program?

Being a member of WiSTEMM since its start in 2019, I have participated in almost everything. My top 3 favorites are our annual expo, our mentorship program, and our volunteer opportunities in the community.

How do you see this program impacting future Nestlé Purina associates in STEMM?

This organization plays a critical role in developing and supporting our associates while giving the company valuable insight into areas where we can grow. Our members partake in mentorship, skill building, and leadership development opportunities that build confidence and prepare them for future roles. The connections and support within this community also contribute to stronger engagement and overall wellbeing, helping make Purina a place where people want to stay and thrive. By championing belonging and elevating the group’s perspectives, we help strengthen our culture and contribute to better outcomes for the business.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your WiSTEMM experience?

This group continues to inspire me. In moments when business pressures have felt overwhelming, I’ve turned to this community for grounding and perspective. It helps me refocus on what truly matters and motivates me to keep pushing forward—striving to be the best version of myself personally and professionally.
