How Gabriel Builds Trust through Cybersecurity
Gabriel's career has taken him across industries, countries, and cultures. Along the way, he learned that protecting organizations isn't just about technology—it also requires people, trust, and shared responsibility.
As an engineer, he spent the early years of his career working with organizations responsible for protecting critical infrastructure, systems that millions of people depend on every day. The environments were demanding, the stakes were high, and mistakes could have significant consequences.
"The biggest lesson of my career was realizing that technology is rarely the hardest challenge. Bringing people together is."
Today, as Functional Relationship Manager for Security & Compliance in Brazil, Gabriel supports one of Nestlé IT&D Americas' largest markets, applying that lesson every day.
Working in cybersecurity means operating at the intersection of business goals, technology, and people. Every day, teams across the organization are launching projects, exploring new tools, and looking for better ways to serve consumers. The pace is fast, and opportunities rarely wait.
Gabriel's role is to help those teams move forward without losing sight of what needs to be protected. In his experience, security is most effective when it enables progress rather than slowing it down.
"My job isn't to say no. It's to build the guardrails that let the business take the road at speed."
That mindset has become a defining part of how he supports the business, helping leaders make informed decisions while creating the confidence needed to keep moving forward.
Instead of waiting until the last minute, teams increasingly involve him earlier in conversations. Not because they have to, but because they see value in having someone help them evaluate options, understand trade-offs, and choose the best path forward.
For Gabriel, trust is one of the clearest signs that the relationship is working.
Looking back, one experience stands out as a defining example of what can happen when people come together around a shared goal.
Nestlé was preparing for an extensive external review of how information was being protected across the organization. Success depended on contributions from multiple teams, locations, and functions.
On paper, it looked like a cybersecurity initiative. In reality, it became a people initiative.
Technology teams, factory leaders, and system owners all had an important role to play. Each group understood a different part of the business, and no single team could succeed alone. As the work progressed, something began to change.
People who had rarely interacted before started collaborating more closely. Conversations became easier. Ownership became more visible. Individuals started seeing security not as someone else's responsibility, but as something they personally contributed to.
For Gabriel, that shift was more important than any formal result.
"People who had never worked together began treating it as their responsibility rather than mine."
That experience reinforced something he deeply believes:
“The strongest cybersecurity defense isn't built by systems alone. It's built by people who understand the role they play in protecting what matters.”
When Gabriel looks back on his career, what stands out most isn't the number of projects he's led or the responsibilities he's taken on over the years. It's the way his perspective has evolved.
