How Amaury Built His Career Through Curiosity, Opportunity, and Growth

Not every career in technology starts with a computer science degree. For Amaury, Manager, IT & Digital Program Management, the journey began somewhere unexpected: Food Engineering.

Today, he helps drive digital programs across North America. But when he started university, his dream was very different. “I always imagined myself working in the food industry,” he says.

What shaped his career early on were the values he learned from his family. His father taught him responsibility and discipline, while his older brother introduced him to the world of program management through his own career path.

During university, Amaury launched a small entrepreneurial venture focused on probiotic beverages. When the pandemic accelerated digital adoption, he found himself exploring e-commerce, building a website, and learning new digital skills to support the business.

This experience helped him discover that technology could be a powerful way to solve business challenges. Soon after, Amaury applied to Nestlé's Graduate Program. At first, he expected an opportunity related to food science. Instead, he found a role in technology.

“I was surprised when I learned it was an IT position,” he recalls. “But I quickly realized that many of the skills I had developed could be applied in a completely different environment.”

That opportunity became the beginning of a career journey that demonstrates how diverse backgrounds can create value in technology. The experience allowed him to develop a broader understanding of the business while building relationships across functions.

“The rotations gave me visibility into how everything connects,” he says. “You learn from different teams, different leaders, and different ways of working.”

The program also helped him build a strong internal network, something he continues to rely on today. One of the most defining moments of his early career happened when he identified an opportunity to improve a process. His leaders encouraged him to move forward and take ownership of the initiative.

“That experience taught me that if you see an opportunity to improve something, you should speak up.”

The project strengthened his confidence and showed him that great ideas can come from any level of the organization. For Amaury, that experience reflects one of the things that makes Nestlé unique: people are encouraged to contribute, learn, and grow regardless of where they start. His journey demonstrates that career growth is not limited to one function, one background, or one predefined path.

“Growth comes from staying curious, learning continuously, and being willing to take on new opportunities.” His advice to students and early-career professionals is simple: “Don't limit yourself to what you studied. Stay curious, keep learning, and be open to opportunities you may not have considered before.”
