Senior R&D Process Engineer

Description

Nestlé Nutrition R&D Centers, Inc. is seeking a Senior R&D Process Engineer located in Fremont, MI, reporting into the Associate Director Engineering.


The role is responsible for developing/designing new and improved processes, and upgrades to existing processes for the Infant and Toddler Meals and Drinks product category. Possesses a deep understanding of the product properties, engineering and quality aspects of the process design to demonstrate Mastership of the technology. The position ensures that the process designs exhibit an absolute intolerance for unsafe situations and follows the requirements of: Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, Hygienic Engineering etc.


The primary responsibilities for the Senior R&D Process Engineer will be as follows:


• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and leads key process development projects. Identifies and resolves project conflicts, including resource allocations, to ensure project meets business expectations.

• Upgrades existing technologies, and identifies and implements new technologies that help achieve business initiatives with an emphasis on extrusion and bakery processing and related new technologies. Influences project direction by providing technical input through the planning, problem solving, and decision making process.

• Ensures internally developed design elements receive appropriate intellectual property protection. Handles confidential information exchange with third parties according to business practices.

• Provides technical assistance to the factories by means of ensuring the development of technically competent and effective workforce for new technology introductions, and troubleshooting technically complex issues.

• Collaborates with cross functional groups and interacts with external suppliers and/or consultants to develop next generation technology roadmap.

• Employee will be responsible to follow and uphold all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures as pertains to role.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in chemical, food or mechanical engineering.

EXPERIENCE:


• Minimum 6+ years of experience in the food industry, preferably in a CPG environment.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience extrusion baking environment is highly   preferred
• Minimum 2+ years of project management experience
• Knowledge of Engineering Design Documentation and Standards.
• Knowledge of: Dough Extrusion, Sheeting and Cutting; Rotary Molding, Single and Twin Screw Extrusion (direct expansion), Baking & Drying Technology incl. Thermal Process Validation, HACCP, High Hygiene Zoning Operation & Specification, Cleaning In and Out of Place (CIP/COP)
• Additional Knowledge of liquid direct and indirect thermal processes, fluid mechanics, and process system validation is a plus.
• Position will require domestic and international travel to support the factories globally.
