Associate Technical Applications Specialist

Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Participate on project teams to deliver innovation and renovation portfolio and optimization/improvement projects.  Collaborate internally and externally to build relationships in order to continuously improve technical skills and personal development. 

Implementation of Innovation and Renovation strategy for the supported 

product categories in the market. Execute product/process development activities (e.g. bench top, pilot plant, and internal/external factory) to achieve project goals and deadlines to delight the consumer.


Support project management and Nestle Product Development & 

Introduction by getting customer requirements (from marketing, 

commercialization teams, safety, quality, operations, maintenance foundations, 

Performance Management pillar) and leading/supporting commissioning, 

qualification, validation, start up, and transfer to operations and maintenance.


Estimate capital following the NCE Early Management process including 

parametric and unit operations, order of magnitude (+/- GT 100%), preliminary 

(+/- GT 50%), and final (+/- 10%)


Design of basis for processes from preliminary to final design including 

process flow diagram, process capability and performance evaluation, P&ID, 

floor layout, equipment orientation, etc.


Conduct analysis on mass balance, heat balance, heat of reaction, special 

geometry, and material of construction requirement.


Calculate proper sizing of pumps, piping, valves, filtration, unit operations, etc.


Perform trade off studies considering capital, operating expense, and risk.


Design and lead FMEA, Factory Acceptance Test, and Site Acceptance Test;

Introduction of new products and processes along with continuous

improvement/optimization of current products and processes within

factories. Collaborate internally and externally (marketing, T&P, raw material

suppliers, etc.) in a team environment that supports and/or assists the 

development, industrialization, and launch of new products, quality 

improvements, compliance, and productivity cost savings. 


Build capability in food process engineering by leading capability-building

events (horizontal teams, etc.), teaching, coaching, acting as the Subject Matter

Expert (SME) on a team, and problem solving using NCE tools.


Have a working knowledge of instrumentation and control strategies

including PID controls, flow meter, temperature, pressure, level controls, etc.

Ensure adherence to all products, processes, materials standards.  Comply with Nestlé requirements (includes 60/40+), external standards, and local regulatory framework.

Continuous improvement of technical skills and personal development, while creating an internal technical network. Build capability in food process engineeringby leading capability building events (horizontal teams, etc.), teaching, coaching, acting as the SME on a team, and problem solving using Nestlé Continuous Excellence tools.Work on projects including but not limited to Master Plan (food process section), Food Safety Task Force, Identify, Prioritize and Assign (IPA)/Loss Analysis, Asset Intensity Performance, CIP/COP, Resource Conservation, Safety, Risk Prediction, Method Statement.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

  • A BS or MS degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Position requires approximately 30% - 50% travel.
  • Non-Category Specific Operations could include:
    • Powder handling
    • Dairy receiving & storage
    • Liquid handling
    • Spray drying & Agglomeration
    • CIP/COP
  • Category Specific Operations is a plus and could include:
    • Homogenization, pasteurizing, mix making, flavoring, freezing, fruit feeding, variegating, Extra-Low Temperature ice cream extrusion, etc.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-3 years of product or process development experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG). 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and high performing environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills & ability to manage multiple projects and assignments
  • Strong communication skills: interpersonal, presentation, oral and written
  • Highly motivated, critical thinker, goal oriented and easily adapts to change
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Power Point, Word, Access, Visio; AutoCAD or equivalent, Minitab or equivalent.
