Key Roles & Day-to-Day Functions
Our sales teams are split into two functions: Category Sales & Business Sales. Category Sales is focused on the pet care category across retailers, shelf strategy, and market trends—they ask, “How do we win over consumers in the aisle of our retailer locations nationwide?” Key roles include category analyst and category manager:
- A Category Analyst builds reports and insights that guide category strategy. They analyze data to identify key drivers and barriers within the pet care category, partnering with the category manager to translate data into strategic actions.
- A Category Manager is responsible for growing market share of their specific category and subcategories by aligning with buyers and category leadership on strategic opportunities. They develop and execute short and long-term category objectives to drive strategic growth and market share.
Business Sales focuses on driving winning strategies with a specific retailer by delivering profit from our brands—they ask, “How do we win the business and trust of the retailer?” The primary roles in Business Sales are business analyst and account manager:
- A Business Analyst reviews market trends and competitor activity to understand what’s driving results, and then translates those insights into actionable recommendations that support growth for the Purina brand within retail accounts.
- An Account Manager serves as a key business partner, developing business plans to achieve or exceed growth targets while managing budgets and retailer relationships. They conduct analyses to evaluate results, perform business reviews to identify opportunities, and deliver accurate forecasts for sales volume and profit.
