Nestlé USA and Purina Join How2Recycle Program

Hopping on the sustainability bandwagon is no new endeavor. In fact, you should see the strides we've made over the years in reducing our own carbon footprint. We've also jumped on the opportunity to partner with How2Recycle, a project of GreenBlue's Sustainable Packaging Coalition® (SPC).

This membership-based group brings together businesses, educational institutions and government agencies to collectively broaden the understanding of packaging sustainability and develop meaningful improvements for packaging solutions.

Select Nestlé USA and Nestlé Purina brands will use the How2Recycle label to help communicate to the public how to recycle their own packaging. The program was designed to offer clear on-package directions to recycling and keeping recoverable materials out of landfills. Our partnership with this program is in conjunction with over 40 other companies using this same labeling on their packaging.

How2Recycle Label Key Components

  • A label design for on-package recyclability by component that includes special messaging

  • A "store drop-off" label for plastic bags and films collected at retail

  • A data collection effort to consolidate "reach" — community access to recycling-data and related information

  • A reference website, which includes tools on how to Check Locally and many more recycling questions

We've always been committed to sustainability, but there is always room to deepen that commitment. Our continuous goal is to persistently contribute to initiatives that can recover used packaging and increase the use of recycled materials where there is an environmental benefit.
