Gerber Products Company dba Nestlé Infant Nutrition is seeking a Safety, Health and Environment Manager at our Fremont, MI, facility.

Develop and direct all policies and programs necessary to fully comply with all Nestlé and regulatory Safety, Health and Environmental requirements for the Fremont Factory, Wastewater Treatment Facility, Product Technology Center, Administration, Gerber Life Insurance Company and associated activities on the Gerber Fremont campus. This position is responsible for legal compliance, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification, risk assessments and continuous improvement related to SH&E performance. Coordinate worker compensation program management. Coordinate security for the Fremont Factory.


Develop and direct factory Safety, Health & Environment Pillar as part of NCE – TPM

Develop and direct efforts to obtain and sustain ISO & OHSAS certifications. Responsible for ensuring that occupational health & safety and environmental management systems are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Standards.

Guide and support SHE activities across the campus. Activities include; ensuring compliance to Nestlé Standards and legal regulations, risk assessments, incident investigations including corrective and preventive actions, pollution prevention & environmental sustainability, safe behavior observations, and training.

Manage OSHA’s PSM and EPA’s RMP programs for the Ammonia Refrigeration systems.

Track and report SH&E Metrics such as incidents, near misses, water & energy consumption. Create scorecards that enable leadership to assess SH&E performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Coordinate the Campus emergency preparedness & management process.

Manage waste water treatment and disposal, 600 acre land application ground water discharge operation.

Manage Workers Compensation program reducing lost time, directing return to work and litigation.

Has immediate responsibility for the Safety & Environmental activities performed by supervisors and employees.
a. Assures that Safety activities are communicated & accomplished as outlined in the plant’s safety program.
b. Assures that activities performed having an environmental impact are communicated and accomplished as outlined in the plant’s environmental program.
c. Assures that the supervisor involved properly investigates all injuries, incidents and accidents as they relate to safety or the environment.
d. Review all accident and incident investigations with the objective of taking action to eliminate future occurrences.

All employees will support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) as a part of there job responsibility within their Business Unit or as assigned within the factory.


Bachelor degree in Environmental and Occupational Health or related area of study required.
Relevant professional certifications a plus.

5+ years experience in Safety, Health and Environment activities within a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated leadership experience.

Decision making; capable of making well informed decisions in both routine and non-routine situations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work and lead in a team environment
Working Knowledge of SH&E regulations and certification standards.
Initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts.
